Fisherman's Wharf @ Taman Desa

After the forum on "Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia" (SABM), my friends took me to this Fisherman's Wharf in Taman Desa for dinner. I have not been to this place but have heard quite a lot about this small and humble pub/restaurant that serves very good food such as the much recommended "sang har mee" and the ginger chicken.

One of my friends brought along this bottle of hanky panky Hankey Bannister 12 year-old Scotch Whisky. I think calling it Hanky Panky would be easier than its original name. This is a brand of Scotch Whisky first manufactured in London in year 1757 which was named after Mr. Hankey and Mr. Bannister.

I must say that for a bottle of 12 yo blended whisky which the brand name sounds something like hanky panky, it's actually very drinkable! It has hints of vanilla and oak and medium-bodied. For scotch whisky that's below RM100/bottle and it tastes good, I'm amazed! Of course one could not compare this to a single malt but if you compare it to the Chivas 12yo & Johnny Walker lower range labels, I prefer Hankey!

It is also reported to be Winston Churchill's favourite drink!

The yummylicious ginger chicken....

If you know me well, you'll know that I absolutely hate ginger. But then, it didn't stop me from snacking on this plate of fried ginger chicken. The ginger is fried to crispy slices and it did not at all overwhelmed the taste of the fried chicken. This is a very good complementary dish to all the beer and whisky!

Nescafe Tarik SATU!

Mr.Augustine, the owner of this place has a very capable staff whom my friends called "ibu" whom makes very good nescafe tarik. It was such a delightful drink after a full meal and some booze. As you can see, the nescafe is pulled to a nice froth and it's not too sweet as well because we all requested for a less-sweet-nescafe.

The menu is quite extensive from western food like grill and steaks to oriental dishes like fried rice, noodles and side dishes like the ginger chicken. Prices range from RM10 - RM21.90. Very affordable indeed. Btw, it's a lso a pub where you can get your dosage of beers and liquor.

cool name for a pub, though i thought it would be a seafood restaurant or at least located beside the sea or river! :D am a major fan of sang har meen, so am always keen to check out places offering that. the ginger chicken looks appealing too, though fried ginger sounds pretty unhealthy compared to steamed ginger =)

KY: some are not... to me

Sean: I also thought it's by a lake or somewhere with water initially. Yeah that nite they ran out of big prawns and we had the sang har mee with small prawns. Must be the sellers hoarding the prawns for new year!

Cumi & Ciki: hehe... I also just knew.. but it's hankey bannister and not hanky panky.

STP: The chicken had an accidental death! Lol...

Thinker: hehe... sorry.

Sounds like a nice place, will surely note in as one of the place to visit when I am back next month.

You may want to ask your friend to get you the Glenlivet 1972 the cellar collection, it is a special vintages and you may like it.

seems to be a lot of good food out there but we have only 1 stomach

Huai Bin: Yeah below RM100 duty paid. You want?

Cath J: Very nice!

Foodcrazee: Unfortunately no... haven't been smoking for sometime.

Admiral Tojo: Hey, thanks. Nice to meet you too! Will brainwash my friends all to register as voters. Cheers!

Taufulou: Dunno whether it'll be suitable for you or not cos it doesn't look like a joint for young people. It's more for the adult & mature crowd that likes a quiet pub.

Foongpc: I'm not a fan of sang har mee. But it was fine to me.

TY: I'll find out about that bottle. The question is, can I afford it?!!

Cruel Angel: Oh well, it's nice to pig out sometimes!

TY said...

Not sure about the price in KL, it is about £350.00 here, my bro-in-law got it for me.
Average Glenlivet is not that expensive, normally cost about £42.00 for a bottle of 18 year old and is one of the award winning whiskey.

TY: When i get that bonus of mine or strike a lottery, I'll get one! Meantime, I'll just refrain from thinking about it.

Very good blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers?
I'm hoping to start my own website soon but I'm
a little lost on everything. Would you advise starting with a
free platform like Wordpress or go for a paid option?
There are so many choices out there that I'm totally confused .. Any ideas? Cheers!
