Be a MAN!

I'm just going to say this once

"Be a MAN and stop carrying a woman's handbag!"

I was listening to MixFM today and a lady said something like that and it reminds me how I felt when I see those men carrying their gf or wife's handbag while walking around in a mall. It utterly disgusts me. While I prefer a gentleman and someone whom is caring, I don't mean a MAN whom carries my Celine Boogie.

You can open car doors, mall doors, house doors and lay your shirt over the puddle of mud or give me Lacoste to wash my car but please don't carry a woman's handbag for her. I don't know what the women are thinking about when they made their partner carry their handbags but I can tell you it's not a pretty sight.

So, WOMEN, would you please carry your own handbag?!! And as for MEN, I can tell you that once you carry that handbag and walk around the mall, you loose all, and I mean ALL SEX APPEAL!

(Oh, so now I know why women make their men carry their handbags! Oops...)

not even when your gf is in the fitting room and the bf had to carry the handbag cos i do see a lot of them carrying outside the fitting room while waiting. haha ..

lol, i don't see it as a huge deal so long as it's not a habit

haha... funny, my bf did grudge a bit when i ask him to carry cos my handbag was heavy :P anyway, i ended up carrying it myself. Well i do agree that they lose sex appeal... haha, looks like "maid"/"sissy" in a way :P But so long it is like waiting outside fitting room and not going around malls carrying the bag, i think it is fine.

Disgusting. Can't stand the sight of guys carrying their gfs/wives handbags, totally unmanly.

this is one of my pet peeves. if females cannot carry their own bags, don't buy them lah. if the bags are too heavy for them to carry, what for get them in the first place?

i've been arguing about this for a long time with my friends. some of them (ahem ky) doesn't see anything wrong with it. being a female, i can see it as a power thing. if it's not and if it's too heavy, then refer to my paragraph 1.

of course sometime when help is needed (e.g. go to toilet, something dropped, hold it for a bit while she goes change clothes etc) it's understandable. but if you just walk around the shopping malls, you'll see that this is not the common case.

I don't know how women do it though, I feel damn insecure if I don't hold my own handbag!!! Hahahaha :P

Well, the way I see it, if it's a relationship it works both ways. If the handbag for that day is particularly heavy (coz of stuff you chuck inside) or you need to carry something else (purchases), yeah I'll carry the handbag, no worries.

On the other hand, if my pockets are stuffed and I can't fit in, say, my digicam or smokes (coz sometimes it gets flattened in certain pants), I sure as hell hope my gf won't mind if I dropped it in her handbag.

It's a give and take thing.

But what if she needs to go toilet? I did that all the time :(

Can I carry your handbag, please?....Then I'll run away with it! Bet you have lots and lots and lots of money in it! LOL!!!

OMG.... i've carry numerous h~bags... (X_X).. i wan me mojo back!!!

eyeris said...

I only carry it if she needs to go change/toilet or anywhere where the bag would be inconvenient. And even then, I carry it in a way that looks like I'm NOT happy carrying it. LOL

I think the least the girl can do is let the bf/husband choose which handbag to buy the next time she shops for one. Since he's going to be carrying it all the time. :)

Anon: That one is ok la but in the first place why can't the lady put her handbag in the fitting room?

KY: Wah you such a good MAN!

Vivien: So long as you know that it doesn't look pretty for your bf to be carrying your handbag around!

Jeen: Exactly!

Suanie: I so agree with you. If the stuffs in the handbag is heavy, pour some out la! Or put into paperbags for the bf to carry! Why buy a LV and ask a man to carry?!!

Mellisa: Me too. I don't think guys are attentive enough to what will happen to our handbags if no one is looking.

Huai Bin: It's ok for your to put things in her bag because in the first place, she's carrying a bag! If the bag is heavy, why can't she get a paperbag and get you to carry those stuff in them instead?!!

HongKiat: Why can't she take her handbag to the toilet?!! Got hangers there you know!

STP: thanks for telling me. I'll never leave my handbag near you! hhaha

Jack: damage is done!

Eyeris: Wah, you even have an expression to go with that?!! Creative!

Ian: You're right! That's a good suggestion.

whatabout schoolbag? neh those backpack type? :S

i once let a guy held my handbag...cos we were walking on a very dark street...and his wallet is i my bag...so he held my handbag...but da bag is quite manly... :S

eiling lim said...

annant: I guess that's ok because no one knew that was a lady's bag.

Myhorng said...

im my gf tired, i'll carry it. i don't mind. too bad.

Huai Bin said...

Well, I guess it's when she has too much stuff, and she prefers carrying the purchases (coz I'm really clumsy) then I'll help out. :)

Toilets are a good reason though, usually take turns going. I don't like putting my stuff in the toilets too (germs!) so I prefer someone to hold it, e.g. my dSLR when I go and I hold hers when she goes.

I gotta agree with u on this one. It irritates me as well!! Guys pls stop carrying yr gf's handbag! Say TAK NAK! hahaha...

p/s: on 2nd thoughts, maybe snatch thieves or potential-to-be should read and understand this. maybe it will deter them from bloody snatching our handbags #@$%!

I think man who holds his gf/wife's handbag is cool be it outside a fitting room or in any inconvenient circumstances that she cannot carry herself. It shows that he is caring, considerate and confident regardless of how other people see him. No sex appeal or sissy, I don't think so. I am your oldest female reader here to post a different comment...almost double your age, perhaps generation gap!

Oh! I was also listening to this topic on Mix FM! Actually hoping to catch Mariah's latest song! haha!

Honestly, I have never seen any man carry a handbag! : )

Certainly a no no. Whats so important that u must bring all those in the bag when shopping. Even an inhaler for people with asthma can just be kept in the pocket. Those women are just trying to show off .When courting the guys can tolerate la, what happens when its not handbag but your child someday.Isn't that selfish!

Cath J said...

lol.. Mmmm.. did I ever ask my hus carry my hbag?? I can't remember... lol.. May be a shopping bag.. ^_^.. Too heavy can't carry alone..

I understand the need for guys to help hold female handbags in appropriate event on momentarily basis. But it always irked me to see guys walking around with women's handbag, ESPECIALLY with their women partners walking next to them, healthy no arms or legs in binds and not carrying anything else. It shamed me sometimes, being a woman, that another woman doing as if it's like a public declaration that the guy in tow is their personal servant or some kind.

eiling lim said...

Horng: Ooh.. so nice of you.

Huai Bin: ok point taken.

Yilingl: Then we don't take handbags and ask guys to bring their bags so we can put all of our stuff into theirs and make them carry it!

Foongpc: Because you haven't been shopping often enough?

Anon: It all depends on situation. A guy should always help out but not carrying the "handbag". It can be a child's diaper/milk bottle bag but not ladies handbag la.

Cath J: Good job!

Iirnii:
Yeah if the woman is not carrying anything, i can't understand why they can't carry their own bags?!!

I hate men carrying handbags too! It's quite hard to explain this "science" but men should never carry girl's hand bags UNLESS it is really necessary. Just a few days ago I was in a mall with my friends, I saw this guy carrying the gf's hand beg. My friends didn't notice the gf was there and thought the hand beg was his(the gf was about a few foot away looking at other things) and my friends actually asked me if the guy was gay! LOL

zéwt said...

couldnt agree more!

J said...

no arguments from me there! totally share your sentiments, woman.

eiling lim said...

Melanie: More reasons why men should not carry women's handbags cos they will give the impression that they are GAY!

Zewt: wow, a rare chance you would agree with something I wrote. haha

J: Thanks jeremy!

I so love this post!!

True man will never carry a woman's bag?

Agree couzzie?

eiling lim said...

Jie Wei: of course! Totally! So you don't embarrass me by carrying a woman's handbag yeah!

Sean again said...

Hi eiling,
At many times, you said that nobody is qualified to dictate what you should wear or do especially in ur latest post.I totally agreed to that. But aren't you doing the same now to man, that man should not carry a lady's bag in this post with a very strong tone too! who r u to judge man looks GAY when carrying bag for his loved one???
Of course, i dont do that but i wont despise my fellow homo sapiens doign that cuz they could be doing for a reason....

eiling lim said...

Sean: Well yeah U say I don't dictate, so I won't dictate my man to carry my handbag or if he offered his help, I wouldn't allow it. So it's not a dictation right? That's my opinion on what a man should not do but I didn't personally go all the way to confront them! Oh and I said "give impressions that they are GAY" but I didn't say I conclude that they are gay..

Anonymous said...

You girls are the one who brings a bag to wherever you go, so carry it yourself. If you dont want to carry it, dont bring it out lah.

eiling lim said...

Anon: Wow.. that's harsh!

Anonymous said...

I'm a guy and I don't see any problem with carrying my gf's handbag. It's just stereotyping. There are many men nowadays carrying a handbag for himself (though mostly gay but it will soon be a trend and a necessity looking at the many things we have to carry with us).

If a man needs to be "not carrying his gf's handbag" to have sex appeal, then I have to say it's his failure. It's just like saying a man who uses an umbrella even when it's raining looks sissy.

Come on, it's goona be 2010 soon! Men and women are equal (that's what you women ask for). If you think you can do whatever a man can do, why can we do whatever you do (esp when we are doing it for you)?

eiling lim said...

Anon: Thanks for sharing.

totally disagree... a relationship works both way.. guess you'll still single..

eiling lim said...

Anon: It's your right to disagree.
