Restoran Tuck Kee @ Ipoh

This outlet can be a dinner place and a supper place because it serves very good fried noodles. Anything you want be it Hokkien Mee, Lam Mee, Fried Mihun or even Cantonese Fried Noodles. There is also another shop with the name Sun Tuck Kee (which means "New "Tuck Kee) that is two doors away. That outlet also serves good noodles but probably a little too oily. Since I've always been frequenting this shop since young, I continue to do so now.

Since the place is not really big, you might have to come early for dinner or wait for a table. Well, if it's really a hassle to wait, you can always walk to the next door Sun Tuck Kee or Lou Wong Beansprout Chicken Hor Fun down the road.

My must order menu is this:

1. Braised Chicken Feet

I know I don't look like someone that licks and slurps on chicken feet (kai geok) but this has to be an exception here. Although this is no foie gras or some Kunomoto oysters, probably just some chicken running naked in the farm, it's equally good in a different way. The braised chicken feet is so soft and full of flavour. The sauce is so good that I tend to feed myself with a few spoonfuls of it.

2. Octopus

This is the octopus (bat jau yue) that is blanched and serve with oil, soya sauce and garlic. It's good when eaten warm because of the springy texture of the octopus. Must order, must order.

3. Cantonese Fried Hor Fun

In Ipoh, we called this the "Wa Tan Hor" which is eggy smooth rice noodles. You seldom get the good ones in KL simply because their Hor Fun is not as good as those in Ipoh and thus half the battle won. The noodles are fried seperately before adding in the eggy soup filled with lots of vege, prawns and meat. Sometimes this is better than some fake sharks fin soup with lots of starch served at wedding dinners. They should serve this instead! Yummy....

3. Fried Mihun

This is the fried mihun with prawns and meat. Very similar to what we called Singapore Fried mihun. But as you can see, the mihun here is not very dry and it the mihun is a lil thicker. Of course, the big prawns and meat with lots of pork lard is a must! Heheh...

And guess what?!! All of these dishes and two drinks for RM19 only! Am I dreaming or what?!! Someone please slap me. Now I know why I'm so broke in KL.

Jasmin & Me with my kai geok.

Anyways, let me introduce you to one of the prettiest Geoscientists around whom happens to be my dear friend Jasmin whom I've known her since primary school in MGS Ipoh. She's working with Petronas now at Tronoh and I'm glad we are able to meet up last weekend.

Btw, I'm not trying to pimp her as she is already attached to a handsome doctor! Huhuhu...

I love chicken feet too (don't know why it's dubbed phoenix claw, I've personally never seen a chicken with flames, unless it's being cooked). Messy to eat, but delicious!

BTW, the ones WITHOUT the bones are even better!

The wonders of modern food processing technology. You won't even need to get your hands dirty with boneless chicken feet. :)

zewt said...

a few years ago, they say it's even cheaper there... we KL folks are being screwed by the food dealers... haha!

Anonymous said...

when i saw those chicken feet, they always reminded me about the chickens walking on their own poo...how do i dare to eat them?

-eiling- said...

Anon: Thank you.

Anon: Yes she is. I guess you must be Pamela's friend.

Jasmin: Why are you floating?!! Haha

Huai Bin: The phoenix claw give it a better name then calling it chicken feet. Tak glamourous mah. Got boneless chicken feet? Eh... where?

Zewt: Well, standard of living has gone up and they know KL people like to go Ipoh and eat! haha...

Anon: Maybe that's what makes them so good! Lol...

now we became the fans for Jasmin. Sorry to ask, is Jasmin a Muslim name or a Christian name? I cannot tell from your photo.

What does a geoscientist do in Perak? Is there oil in Perak? Not the cooking oil.

I did not know Tronoh is in Perak. Never heard of the name!

-eiling- said...

Anon: She'll be happy to have a fan club! haha... FYI, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS is in Tronoh, Perak. She's tutoring at this moment and she does study on oil and thus she travels around malaysia with the team. Maybe she can answer better. haha...

-eiling- said...

Anon: oops I forgot. she's chinese and that's the christian name.

one person is giving out oil (how nice if she can keep producing oil and the man who owns her will become super rich). the other person keeps smoking cigar. this is definitely going to catch fire...ha

Eyew...you eat chicken claws!!! The rest...I like!!! LOL!!!

-eiling- said...

Anon: Yeah I make the husband go poorer.

STP: Oh you don't eat phoenix claws?!! How surprising. I thought you would be adventurous in food!

What can be better than DR. If your current boy friend is a DR, and what other better titles may make you change your mind? Dato? Tan Sri (likely old) or Tun (must be old).

Myhorng said...

the signboard looks familiar. feel like i know the place.

-eiling- said...

KY: It tasted awesome too.

Anon: Did I offend you? What did I say wrong? I didn't look for a bf with titles! What has titles got to do with one's personality?!! And what's with the me and my bf thing?!!

-eiling- said...

Horng: I think you should have been there before.

Anonymous said...

No, just a general discussion for any one. Sorry if it created a confusion.

-eiling- said...

Anon: No prob.

Jasmin Saw said...

I am floating as you praised me till I kembang, and I kembang till I terbang in the air. haha.
You can now put a 'Jasmin Fan Club' link on the right of your page hahaha

K.T.X: Yeah I'm from Ipoh but has moved down to KL since college days. Probably the taste over there has not been consistent with the changing of chefs!
