Happy 52nd Independence Day!

Selamat Hari Merdeka to all Malaysians out there!

Even how unhappy I am with the current political scene in the country, I'll keep my mouth shut just for today! (in respect of our country's memories of independence)

Had fun reading your blog, that i stumbled upon. did you realize you're the 3rd google hit for good tastes?

Malaysia is a messed up place. I'm half malaysian, on my mother's side, so it's ok for me to say that. But it does have its charms...

Anyway, i try to stumble in from time to time,

Towkay: Thanks for dropping by! Although Malaysia is a messed up place, I somehow feel very comfortable staying here. It's like I'm in comfort zone!

I always did feel more comfortable in malaysia, than in singapore where i was raised. But then again, I feel SUPER comfortable in thailand that I basically want to live there (the food, the people, the culture is incredible; the politics there is even more messed up, so basically you can get away with murder if you have the money and connections).

Now I'm not a polical analyst, but it's obvious that the racial and religious strife in malaysia is so played up by the politicians for their own personal gain (which is laughable because they are as removed from the people they claim to represent as anyone else). what malaysia needs is an obama, who can appeal to the various groups and bring unity (like the general population, many of the top leaders have mixed ancestry so that shouldn't be too difficult, it's finding the right person that's difficult).

The ruling parties claim to be the ones keeping the peace and everyone from killing each other, but they basically turn right wing or left wing depending on what is more politically expedient. To their credit, they have somehow succeeded in creating a modern nation. there are very few modern secular islamic states like malaysia (perhaps only Turkey) which can claim to be stable and tolerant.

i heard east malaysia is supposed to be paradise and much different from peninsular malaysia, never been, don't know.

Towkay: I think I will love East Malaysia too except there isn't much shopping over there!
