Fukuya @ KL

Fukuya is literally translated as "house filled with happiness" and in this case, it filled my tummy with happiness because it's an authentic japanese restaurant. The last time I was here was quite sometime ago in 2007 during the Enrich Gold Party. I've heard of the slaughtering prices and thus never did have a chance to return!
This post will be filled with pictures because I have no idea what dishes my friends had ordered. They left the entire menu to the chef and we just savour whatever was served to us that night. Fukuya is famous for its kaiseki menu where it's a multi-course Japanese dinner made from the freshest ingredients.

I love this dish. The rice was well cooked and served with fish roe.

So how could any dinner with my friends be complete without liquor?!! We had a small bottle of this sake which I have no idea what it's called. Perhaps anyone here can enlighten me with some japanese lessons! The sake is light and smooth. It's about RM200+ for this bottle of 450ml I think.

It certainly doesn't need to take a rocket scientist to tell that the dessert is of yam ice-cream and rock melon. The rock melon really rocks! It's so sweet and you can feel the juice bursting into your mouth!

I read that Fukuya has its ingredients freshly flown in from Japan twice a week to ensure that their dishes are fresh all the time. That's only half the freshness of my favourite japanese restaurant Yoyogi in Singapore. They have it at 4 times a week! Honestly to compare, Fukuya was rather disappointing because I find the dishes arrive looking pretty but lacked substance. The taste was just not up to my expectations. I actually expect a lot from this restaurant because I heard so much about it.
I think for all the dishes we have eaten, it comes up to about RM150-RM180 per person excluding the sake. Overall, it's an enjoyable experience because the setting and ambience is very good especially if you have a small group of 4-6 people, you can opt for an individual room. It's a nice place to throw a small company function or party too but as for the food, I would prefer to just eat at my usual Rakuzen.

The Japanese food are like that. Price is high. They look nice and small in volume. Quality is most important. That is why most Japanese girls are slim and pretty.
But there are now too many fake Japanese restaurants, operated by Chinese instead of Japanese. I hate to get into one of those kind of fake Japanese restaurants.
Eiling! Why you everytime eat at such ATAS places one. I kenot follow, no money. :(
Huai Bin, Yess and she never bring us (to eat for free that is) :X

Finally, Junmai Daiginjo ..the premium, once you had it you'll never go back to lower classed sake. I'll see if I can sneak a bottle for HB.

Nice sushi in the restaurant. Must try the kengan water also. Let me know if anyone keen. Special invitation only.
Im not a qualified food critic but i can tell the difference between awesome food & not up to par food. I brought my date to try out the place to see if the quality of the food lives up to it's image. My assorted tempura was soggy & cold mess where i expected it to be at least fresh & crisp. My date's unagi was to me, not well seasoned enough. At least give me a warm ocha dammit, it's luke warm!
