Daylight Robbery Taxi Drivers

The reason why I never like to take a cab in Malaysia is mainly because of the drivers. Not only they are unscrupulous, careless, dangerous, they are also rude and smelly! Why can't our cab drivers be the people that we could trust or at least be people we could rely on in getting us to our destinations on time and safely?

Have we heard passengers being raped by them?
Have we heard passengers being robbed by them?
Have we been rejected a ride to certain destinations?
Have we bargained for the fares?
Have we risk our lives in their cars?
The possibilities are endless.

Recently, a friend was telling that her Singaporean friend wanted to take a cab from KLCC to Bandar Utama. First, he hailed a taxi whom wanted to charge him RM30 for the ride but he refused. He wanted to take a metered taxi and which the 2nd taxi he hailed agreed to use the meter. To his horror, the fare came about RM200!!! It's time to give them a lesson by suspending them from driving!

See what I mean?!! How could taxi drivers get away cheating people like that?!! The Singaporean friend could have reported it to the police or at least refuse to pay. The problem with foreigners is that, they still pay no matter what! How come we do not have a system like Singapore or even Bangkok where the taxis all use meters without having to ask?!! And most importantly, the drivers are reliable and we could even take a taxi at midnight without fear!

This could really affect our tourism industry! No one would want to come to Malaysia or take a cab. But then again, our public transportation system is so bad, so no choice but to take taxi lor...

I have met some really nice taxi drivers, but I agree most are horrible.

RM200 for a trip from KLCC to BU? Wow! Really daylight robbery! Some more use meter!

But no matter what, I still prefer to sit taxi than take the bus!

I really like taxi drivers in Singapore - they never cheat passengers and are very reliable. If Malaysian taxi drivers are half as good, I think I'll be satisfied : )

yupp totally agreed with u on that bad for our tourism industry , once I hail a taxi from Sunway Pyramid to Sg Wang, at 1st the driver said it was RM20 so I agreed but when I reach my destination he said RM35, the reason he gives is going back to Sunway traffic jam mah...

That is why now if possible I try not take taxi but using LRT or Putra instead.

Wonder why the ministry NEVER take action at those taxi drivers even there is a complain been made by them?

this is not about the fare but the rudeness. i took a taxi from KLIA back home. Throughout the journey, the taxi guy was passing lewd remarks about this woman he saw at the airport which was flashing her undie when she was sitting to the other taxi drivers using his walkie talkie. The remarks are so yucky, I can tell u listening to it is really a pain to the ear.

Cath J: I guess they never learn!

Foongpc: I met very nice taxi drivers in Singapore but not here!

Irenelim: I also wanna be taxi driver after this.

Breadpitt: Yeah... taxi meter that jumps by 10 dollars per kilometre!

M-Knight: This is A CON JOB! I don't think taxi drivers are top priorities in the ministry!

Li Wei: How could he do that? If I were you, I'll tell him to shut up!

I'm with u on this. there are some nice 1 but you know... had few bad experiences with taxi in malaysia when i banged my car earlier.

All this endless complaining is going nowhere; one should seriously consider immigration out of this blasted land if one feels so unhappy.
What a waste of time with all this complaining.

Horng: Poor you. Some of these taxi drivers are very gangster one..

Z3ph: "It’s a free world, and I’m free to say and speak my mind." quoted from you.

interestingly i've met some very friendly and nice taxi drivers. But I almost never hail them, call instead. You have to pay extra RM2 but it's all well worth it.

Basically there is always a leader there to help the taxi drivers to with bargain with the fare between the customers and the drivers, where they going and how much it going to cost them even the fare like from KLCC to SG Wang is around RM6.00 they would charge u between RM15 RM20and say that there is a traffic jam or rush hour now at that place, which is not true at all....which i rather take the LRT instead.

But of course NOT...all taxi drivers is like that.

KY: I also call my usual taxi driver when I need to get to the airport.

M-Kinght: Yes u're right. There's someone who negotiates the price and then all you do is just to hop onto their taxi!

Fidani chocolates is available in KKIA, Kuching International Airport and Labuan Airport.

Of course ure entitled to your own opinions.
My statement is a proposed solution to your complaining.

There is no point to complain yet not rectify the situation.

You will always be where you are.
Stuck in a puddle of mud.

Recently, I went back to M'sia for holiday after staying abroad for 2years. I was in KLCC and wanted to go Pavillion as that was the new shopping mall(never been there). I didn't know where it's located so decided to take a taxi. To my horror, he asked for RM50.

I rejected him & decided to walk. A friendly passerby showed me the direction and it's just 15mins walk!!!

-eiling- said...

Anon: Oh I didn't know that.

Ah: they obviously have no idea how important customers are!

Kampungboycitygal: Not only koreans, everyone else hates them too!

Sarah P: obviously the taxi driver wants to con you and he knew that you're from abroad!

even metered taxis i find it quite expensive here because they're using this per 45 seconds policy. I think it should be more reasonable by kilometre.

Ya..I took a cab from Bukit Bintang to Concorde KL and the Chinese driver refused to use meter - insisted on me paying RM10.00. OK...so I paid. After all, it's only money - may he rot in his grave (Oops! Doesn't that happen all the time? LOL!!!)

When we came back past midnight, I asked the Indian cab driver and he said RM10.00. Normally there should be a 50% surcharge. There was a jam (Good grief! KL! At past midnight!) but the driver was very patient and gracious, so I paid him RM10 and gave him another RM5 for minum kopi!

When they are nice people, I willingly give them a bit more...
